Dubai Municipality and Silicon Oasis launch first lab to test sustainability initiatives and projects
Dubai, 10 November 2019: Dubai Municipality has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA) to develop and implement geospatial infrastructure, enhance cooperation frameworks in the sustainability fields, and test new ideas for Dubai Municipality’s sustainability projects through the first such laboratory in Dubai Silicon Oasis.
The MoU was signed by Dawood Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality and Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Al Zarouni, Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of DSOA, in the main building of the Municipality in the presence of a number of officials from both sides.
Al Hajri said: “The signing of the MoU is based on the vision of the wise leadership and strategic directions of the UAE, and in the interest of strengthening cooperation and coordination between the two parties and our belief in the importance of consolidating the partnership relationship between the Municipality and various parties to benefit from the expertise in the areas of sustainability and smart application technologies to achieve the strategic goals.”
“The use of advanced technologies in the study and development of various projects enhances their achievement of the desired objectives, which contributes to the availability of sustainability standards and competitiveness in these projects, and it also emphasizes Dubai’s stature as a city unique for its exceptional projects and technological development,” he added.
Al Zarouni said: “Smart Future Cities will rely primarily on big data analysis technologies, AI applications, geographic and spatial information systems with open sources and updated around the clock. This will achieve the best levels of management and control in terms of public services, smart mobility, waste treatment, or infrastructure development, not only to meet the needs of the population, but also to anticipate their requirements and keep up with their future aspirations.”
“Our collaboration with Dubai Municipality in launching the first laboratory for sustainability initiatives and projects and in the development and implementation of Dubai’s geospatial infrastructure is an important step towards the realization of the DSOA’s Smart City Strategy, supporting Dubai and the UAE sustainability agenda, and contributing to the development a geo-economic map of Dubai in accordance with the second item of the 50 Year Charter, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, earlier this year,” he added.
The objectives of the MoU include enhancing cooperation in the development of smart irrigation networks using modern technology, waste collection and recycling, and the field of sewage systems and infrastructure, and provide training on the concepts of innovation for the Municipality employees and specialized programs aimed at developing the competencies and skills of the employees of the two parties in line with future concepts and needs as well as collaboration in the expansion and development of introductory information for DSOA residents through joint workshops with Dubai Municipality.
